Catching the Spirit Catechist formation Minimize

Some of the Fostering Faith sites are designated as Catching the Spirit sites. These sites offer the same curriculum and follow the same schedule (unless otherwise noted) as the other Fostering Faith sites but add a special emphasis on doing catechetical ministry in the Black Catholic communities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Presenters are chosen based on their experience and expertise at doing catechetical ministry in the Black Catholic community. The rich experience and traditions of African-Americans provides participants with a unique opportunity to connect the Gospel to culture.

Catching the Spirit modules provide basic biblical and theological foundations and an integrated approach to catechesis with careful attention to the relevance of African-American culture, traditions, and values. While the Catching the Spirit sites emphasize a focus on catechesis in the Black Catholic community, all are welcome to attend. Participation at Catching the Spirit sites leads to Archdiocesan Catechist certification.

Catechists from Black Catholic Communities follow the Fostering Faith curriculum at St. Martin de Porres Parish.
