Description:
The Jegen Center for Catechetical Media and Research is a Catholic multi-media resource and research center with a wide array of quality materials, training, seminars and speakers. The Jegen Center offers the parishes, schools and institutions of the Archdiocese of Chicago and beyond access and guidance for marrying catechesis and technology.
The Jegen Center is many things: a library, a lecture hall, a network of catechists, and a communication center. You can screen products, conduct research, borrow materials, attend seminars, explore resources, peruse the archives, discuss religious education with catechists across the world on the Internet, and receive updates and recommendations on resources and methodologies.
History:
Since 1961 Mundelein Center for Religious Education (which became the Loyola Center) filled the need for media materials in religious education. The Institute of Pastoral Studies of Loyola University Chicago generously donated the materials to the Archdiocesan Office for Catechesis in 1995. ACTA Foundation gave a generous grant to be able to update the collection, and at present the Jegen Center houses more than 3500 books, 1500 videos, CDRom reference materials, audio-tapes, and numerous archival items in the form of 16mm films, filmstrips, slides, reel-to-reel tapes and posters.
Mission:
The Jegen Center Mission is simple: to share innovative, doctrinally sound, and varied tools and techniques to support catechesis for a lifetime of learning.
